Basic Amateur Radio Couse
    The following series of Power Point Presentations (8 modules, 386 slides) has been prepared by the Toronto Emergency Communications (EmComm) Group as an aide to train interested volunteers in becoming Amateur Radio Operators. This course is offered free of charge to all Radio Clubs, ARES Groups, and individuals in the interest of public safety and community service. 

    The Toronto Emergency Communications Group's mission is to develop and maintain the leadership and organizational structure necessary to provide auxiliary volunteer radio communications support to Emergency Management Ontario and the City of Toronto Office of Emergency Management when additional or specialized communications are required by the Emergency Operations Centre to support public safety or humanitarian

    IMS- 100: Introduction to the Incident Management System

    The IMS-100 course is recommended for all emergency responders in Ontario. It is currently available as a downloadable reading package supported by an on-line exam offered through Ontario’s emergency management learning portal.

    To take the IMS-100, please download the course materials. Once you have completed the course package, return to this page and register for the course. After registering, you will be able to take the on-line exam. 

    EM 125 – Exercise Programs: An Introduction

    This introductory self-study program will provide you with the basic concepts of exercise program management, including key terms and an overview of the exercise design process. Upon successful completion, you will be able to actively participate as a member of an exercise design team or program committee member.

    It is currently available as a downloadable reading package supported by an on-line exam offered through Ontario’s emergency management learning portal.

    Once you have completed the course package, return to this page and register for the course. After registering, you will be able to take the on-line exam. 

    Additional Information

    When you first access the emergency management learning portal, you will be asked to create an account. Your account information will be sent to the email address you provided.

    Once you have an account, you can login and enrol in IMS-100 by browsing the course catalogue. 

    Note: All Emergency Radio Operators registered with Toronto EmComm are required to successfully complete the IMS-100 and EM 125

    Incident Command System
    • Incident Command System (ICS) Overview ....a summary for use by Amateur Radio operators working on ARES activities. This summary is -only- to provide Hams with a basic understanding of terminology and concepts associated with ICS and NOT to replace formal ICS training.

    Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) 
    Online Training Program
    • The Canadian Emergency Preparedness College(CEPC), Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Canada, is pleased to present to you the e-learning component of a comprehensive CBRN first responder training program. The program has been developed in collaboration with the following federal departments and agencies: the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Public Health Agency of Canada, Defence Research and Development Canada, and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission. 
    • Who should take the CBRN Awareness course?

    • Answer: Awareness training is aimed at the wide range of individuals who may be in a position to recognize a CBRN incident, but would not be in a position to respond. Members of the target audience include, among others, public transit operators, building operators, mail room staff. Members of the general public are encouraged to take the course.
       
    • Who should take the Basic level CBRN course?

    • Answer: Basic training is aimed at individuals who may be in a position to recognize and respond to a CBRN incident, but would not be the ones to intervene. Members of the target audience include, among others, 911 operators, police, fire-fighters and emergency medical services personnel first arriving on scene. 
       
    • How long are the Awareness and Basic courses?

    • Answer: The courses are self-paced, so the time to complete the training can vary substantially. Plan for 3 to 4 hours to complete the Awareness course and 5 to 7 hours to complete the Basic level course. 
       
    • Will I receive a certificate when I finish the courses?

    • Answer: Yes. When you complete the final course assessment successfully, you will be presented with the option of printing your certificate.

    • In order to login to the e-learning courses, you will need to complete an online registration form. Be sure to record your username and password as you will need them to login to the courses.
